A magazine of magazines: Documenta 12

Do you ever wonder how the global art world knows about contemporary niche movements and discreet happenings? Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany last year decided to make the textual linkages transparent for us. The 2007 Magazines project has created an online journal of international art journals from the crags of Romania (IDEA arts + society) to the sun risen shores of Japan (Art It) and back to hip-enabled post-industrial musings of Brooklyn (Cabinet). Searchable and browsable by language, theme, article author and journal, there’s enough contemporary art, cultural theory and social activism to make your eyes and heart bleed. It is amazing to search for an author/critic across all the global art issues and see how they craft their critical words for different formats and readerships. But don’t take this writer’s word for it. Have a navigate through their network of journals (visualized here for your amusement).
