The Fringe | World Archaeological Congress
The Sixth World Archaeological Congress (WAC-6) hosted by the School of Archaeology, UCD, represented the largest gathering of professional archaeologists in the world, with over 1600 academic papers submitted. To complement the academic programme WAC-6 hosted the first ever WAC Fringe - a series of demonstrations, events and exhibitions, showcasing cutting edge international archaeological research and artistic practice. These included demonstrations in experimental archaeology (e.g. flint knapping, hide working, cooking), audiovisual presentations (with the School of Folklore, Irish Traditional Music Archive) and contemporary arts exhibitions (e.g. photographic exhibitions, video art and temporary installations), and brought together collaborators from within Ireland, as well as from across Europe, North America, China, Australia and New Zealand.
